ASSISTANT COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

The Assistant Counselor assists in planning, developing, coordinating and conducting of the facilities functions and provides client services as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor. This position is a beginning level counseling position with primary duties centering on client admission, orientation, and in obtaining the necessary assessment data for diagnosis and treatment. Upon obtaining experience with the facilities recovery philosophy and the trust and respect of the clients, the Assistant Counselor may be expected to increase their functions to include facilitating therapeutic activities and managing case loads under the direction of his or her supervisor. At such times, the specific duties of Counselor shall apply.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The duties of the Assistant Counselor include but are not limited to:

 (a) Intakes

>      Performing intakes upon new clients;

>      Searching personal possessions of new clients of the same sex;

>      Explaining the facility Guide Lines and Rules and Regulations;

>      Assigning a client guide to the new entrant.

 (b) Client Relations

>      Weekly one-on-one discussion with each client;

>      Problem solving that does not necessitate direct intervention from his or her supervisor;

>      Recording observations of clients and the facility and reporting to his or her supervisor;

>      Upholding the rules and regulations and reporting infractions.

 (c) Other Duties

>      May be required to drive clients and/or other staff members to and from necessary
     appointments, meetings, etc.;

>      Answer phones and greet guests;

>      Perform secretarial duties;

>      Supervise the general running of the facility.

     2. Supervised by:                      Counseling Director

     3. Promotion from:                    Non established

     4. Promotion to:                        Counselor after no sooner than three months, once
                                                     credentials are established.

     5. Staff relations:                       Maintain positive professional relations with staff.

     6. Public relations:                     Maintain positive professional relations in community
                                                     representation of C.R.S. and The Cornerstone.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Assistant Counselor must have:

>      No history of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of 12 months immediately preceding the date of employment.

>       At least a high school diploma or equivalent.

>      A minimum of 500 hours work experience in a drug and/or alcoholism agency or facility.

>      Not on Probation or Parole

>      Valid California Drivers License & Clean DMV Record

>      CPR and First Aid Certification (required prior to starting)
