COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

The Counselor is expected to organize and keep updated a recovery program in accordance with the Cornerstone Philosophy and Guide Lines. She or he is expected to assist in the planning, developing, coordinating and conducting of the facilities functions and provide client services as assigned by the facility Director. This position is a counseling position with primary duties centering on continual improvement of the recovery program, assuring that the necessary assessment data for diagnosis and treatment is obtained, and assisting in staff training.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The duties of the Counselor include but are not limited to:

(a) Program

>     Formulating new program material and counseling methods.

>     Organizing and updating the program library.

>     Staff training.

>     Resident charting and treatment planning.

>     Resident evaluations and program planning.

(b) Client Relations

>     Weekly one-on-one discussion with each client;

>     Problem solving that does not necessitate direct intervention from the director.

>     Recording observations of clients and the facility and reporting to the director.

>     Upholding the rules and regulations and reporting infractions.

(c) Other Duties

>     Public relations.

>     Supervise the general running of the facility.

>     Supervise the general running of the facility.

3. Promotion from:        Assistant Counselor

4. Promotion to:            None

5. Staff relations:           Supervise and maintain positive profession­al relations with staff.

6. Public relations:         Maintain positive professional relations in professional and

                                    community representation of C.R.S. and The Cornerstone.

 QUALIFICATIONS

The Counselor must have:

>      No history of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of two years immediately prior to the time of employment.

>      Certification as a substance abuse counselor or its equivalent in experience (2 years experience = 1 year education)

>      A minimum of 2,080 hrs (approximately one year) work experience in a drug and/or alcoholism agency or facility with experience as a counselor.

>      Not on Probation or Parole

>      Valid California Drivers License & Clean DMV Record

>      CPR and First Aid Certification (required prior to starting)
